The parents of Central Michigan University student James Eric Davis Jr were shot dead in his dorm room at the university on March 2, 2018. Davis was later arrested and charged with their murders, after a 15 hour manhunt that saw the campus locked down.[1][2]

The shooting garnered national interest during the campus lockdown because it was the first school shooting since the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Shooting that killed 17 people and injured 14 people just 16 days earlier, prompting a new nationwide protest movement, the 2018 United States gun violence protests.

Shooting

The campus was placed on lockdown after shots were heard around 8.30am on March 2, 2018 on the 4th floor of Campbell Hall, where 19 year old Davis lived. Many students were in the process of leaving for Spring Break. Campus Police gave the public a description of the suspect and warned them to treat him as armed and dangerous, and not to approach him. Just after midnight on March 3, 2018, Davis was seen by train operators near train tracks to the North West of the campus. Police arrested him and took him to a local hospital. He was charged with two counts of murder and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm used to commit murder.[3]
