Moovit is the world's largest transit data and mobility analytics company and the #1 transit app. By combining information from public transit operators and authorities with live information from its user community, Moovit offers transit riders a real-time picture, including the best route for the journey. Named Best Local App by Google in 2016[2] and one of Apple’s Best Apps of 2017[3], Moovit is available for free on iOS, Android and the Web in more than 2,000 cities, across 80 countries, and can be used in 44 languages[4]. More than 100 cities, global events and partners, including Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Olympics[5], AS Roma[6] and UEFA have made Moovit their official transit app. In 2017 Moovit launched its Smart Transit Suite[7] of products to help cities, governments and transit operators improve urban mobility in their cities.

Overview

Moovit offers real-time public transit information and GPS navigation across transit modes, including buses, ferries, rapid transit (metro/subway/underground, etc), trains, trams, and trolleybuses. Users can access a live map, and view nearby stops and stations based on their current GPS location, as well as plan trips across transportation modes based on real-time data.[8] The application differs from traditional public transit applications as it is community-driven and integrates official public transit data from transit operators with real-time data collected from users via crowdsourcing.[9] In March 2014, Moovit became the first provider to create transit data for areas in which no data is officially available (or where local transit agencies do not offer it to app developers) by creating a "community editor" and allowing volunteer editors to generate schedule and map data[10] to be loaded into the Moovit app. In January 2018, they had over 250,000 "Mooviters" all around the world.

By riding with the Live Directions feature active, users can passively and anonymously transmit their speed and location data to Moovit. Moovit then integrates this crowdsourced data with public transit schedules to improve trip plan results based on current conditions, and share this data with the user community.[11] In addition to passively sharing data, users can actively send reports including reasons for delays, overcrowding, satisfaction with their bus driver, and wifi availability.[12] Moovit amasses up to one billion anonymous data points a day to add to the world’s largest repository of transit data.

Moovit is available in more than 2,000 cities across 80 countries around the world including New York, Barcelona, Bogota, Cape Town, Istanbul, London, Los Angeles, Madrid, Mexico D.F., Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Rome, São Paulo, Santiago de Chile, Sydney, Tel Aviv, and Toronto.[13] The app is free for mobile Android, iOS, and Windows devices.[14]

Moovit uses data from OpenStreetMap, a collaborative project to create a free editable map of the world based on the Open Database License.[citation needed]

The company released their first annual Global Public Transit Usage Report in December 2016.

In June 2017, the company released a new product called Moovit Insights providing public transit ridership and usage statistics for over a hundred cities around the world.

On February 21, 2018, Moovit raised $50 million in Series D funding led by Intel Capital.[15]
