The Nipah virus infection in Kerala, was the outbreak of fever caused by the Nipah virus in May 2018, causing 10 deaths in its first week (including a health worker who was a caregiver for the initial patients before diagnosis)[1]. The initial area affected was the Kozhikode (Calicut) District of North Kerala, and the infection spread to the adjoining Malappuram district after the first week. Subsequent health advisories were issued for adjoining districts of Karnataka (including Mangalore, Kodagu, Mysore) with two suspected cases detected in Mangalore on 23 May 2018[2].

The presence of the Nipah virus (NiV) was confirmed by the National Virology Institute, Pune [3].
