The oiltanker was sold. The new name of the ship is Iris Star Ship name: Biruinta

M/T Irish Star is the sister-ship of M/T Independenta, which in the past had a catastrophic accident at the southern-entrance to the Strait of Istanbul


On on 27 July 2000 the 304-Metres long giant tanker “IRIS STAR” lost power due to engine failure and drifted towards Kandilli point in Turkey.M/T Independenta under Romanian flag and freighter M/V Evriyali under Greek flag, collided . 43 crew member lost their lives of the Romanian tanker and only 3 survived.
