Ship name: Biruinta

  • The Biruinta oiltanker was sold after romanian revolution. It was one of the biggest ship of the Romanian comercial fleet.The new name of the ship is in present Iris Star.

History

Biruinta is now M/T IRIS STAR, Maltese Flag, Romanian-made ship 16 years old Supertanker[1]. On on 27 July 2000 the 304-Metres long giant tanker “IRIS STAR” lost power due to engine failure and drifted towards Kandilli point in Turkey. The accident was avoided.


  • M/T Irish Star is the sister-ship of M/T Independenta, which in the past had a catastrophic accident at the southern-entrance to the Strait of Istanbul
  • M/T Independenta under Romanian flag and freighter M/V Evriyali under Greek flag, collided . 43 crew member lost their lives of the Romanian tanker and only 3 survived.10
