The Inner Room is a 1988 collection of poetry by James Merrill (1926-1995). It is dedicated to Merrill's partner Peter Hooten.

The Inner Room includes the celebrated cycle of poems called "Prose of Departure", which describes a visit to Japan while a friend in New York City is dying of AIDS.
