Miss Pacific Islands is a national Beauty pageant held in the Pacific Islands Region, formally know as Miss South Pacific Pageant but changed in 2014.
History
The Miss South Pacific Pageant was established in 1987 by the Government of Samoa as a regional event to recognise and promote the attributes, intelligence and talents of young Pacific Island women. The Pageant gives recognition to young Pacific Island women and their contributions to regional affairs and their ability to advance in diverse fields.
The first Miss South Pacific Pageant was held in 1987 and was hosted by the Western Samoa Government on that night Miss American Samoa, Miss Juliet Spencer was crowned the first Miss South Pacific. The Miss South Pacific Pageant from 1987 to 2000, included contestants representing their homeland communities in other countries. For example, Miss Samoa New Zealand (representing the Samoan Community in New Zealand), Miss Papua New Guinea Australia (representing the PNG community in Australia) etc. In 2001, contestants representing their homeland communities abroad had to compete in their homeland pageants in order to get a chance to be in the Miss South Pacific Pageant. In the year 2014 the pageants name Miss South Pacific Pageant was changed to Miss Pacific Islands so that the pageant would represent the whole Pacific Region instead of only the South Pacific.
