History
Along with the other stations opened along the Green Line B, Fordham Road was built. It was a station which ran on an island along Commonwealth Avenue in Boston, Massachusetts. The station served a housing development and a small store chain. In 2004, the MBTA planned on closing 5 stations, Fordham Road, Chiswick Road, Mount Hood Road, Greycliff Road and Summit Avenue. This was due to low ridership and the stations where very close in proximity to each other, slowing down the B line.
Closure
When the 5 stations where going to close, a Jewish Community for Elderly fought for Chiswick Road, as the elderly regularly use the station. Chiswick Road was spared. As for the other 4, they where closed on April 20th, 2004 for a 6-8 mounth pilot program. However, on March 15th, 2005, the MBTA announced the official closure of Fordham Road, Greycliff Road, Mount Hood Road and Summit Avenue where officially closed. Following this, the station was stripped of all it's features exept for the platform and the yellow crosswalk.
