The Estonian Health Board is an Estonian governmental agency in the area of responsibility of the Ministry of Social Affairs. [1] The agency contributes to health care, epidemic control, environmental health, chemical safety, and the safety of medical devices in Estonia. [1] The Health Board provides laboratory services for example Tallinn, Tartu, and Kohtla-Järve and supervises inter alia the lawfulness of health care providers' licenses, water quality (swimming pools, drinking water, bathing water), the level of noise in an area, or safety of medical devices. [2]
History
The Health Board was created by law in 2010 with three predecessor agencies merging into one. [3]
Organisation
The Health Board is managed by a general director. In 2017, Merike Jürilo followed Tiiu Aro in this position. [4] [5]
Locations
Apart from a main building in Tallinn, which hosts the department responsible for Northern Estonia, the agency has three other regional departments in Pärnu, Tartu, and Kohtla-Järve.[6]
