Nation Builders Corps (NABCO)
Government of Ghana Initiative For University Graduate

Nation Builders Corps also known as NABCO[1] is an initiative introduced by the government of Ghana in other to provide jobs to unemployed university graduate to solve various social problem in both the private and public sectors and build their skills in other to promote economic growth in the country.

Application process

Interested graduate would have to go the Nabco website to sign up and provide necessary documents like Degree Certificate,NSS Certificate, National Identification Cards and other information in other to sign up for the program or initiative.

After graduate trainee have signed up for the program a text message would be sent to each and every trainee in other for them to attend an interview. Applicants who were successful had to go for an orientation at the district level and those who had issues such as pending and no show with respect to their registration also attend the orientation and were assisted by the district coordinators in other for their problems to be solved.

In the orientation each and every personnel across board were taught the key indicator that would make a NABCO trainee successful on the job. These indicators are known as KPI. The K stands for Knowledge, P stands for Punctuality and the I' stands for Integrity.

Explanation of KPI

  • Knowledge (K) : This is where trainees must learn whiles on the so they can apply the knowledge they had on the job to enhance productivity
  • Punctuality (P) : This is where trainees must ensure that they report to work earlier than expected and they should not look at how the organizational culture work concerning early work. When trainees is able to go to work early he would ensure that there is productivity.
  • Integrity (I) : This is where each of the trainees must do a diligent job and must avoid being corrupt on the job they are doing further it would enhance productivity and development of their personal the job as a whole.

Modules

NABCO has seven modules of which a graduate needs to sign up for in other for him or her to be engaged, these modules are; Educate Ghana, Heal Ghana, Digitize Ghana, Feed Ghana, Revenue Ghana, Civic Ghana and Enterprise Ghana.

  • Educate Ghana is a module under which graduate trainees are to work in a school as a supporting teacher or teaching in basic school. This is mostly for teacher or other disciplines as well. They would basically be looking at the STEM (Science Technology & Mathematics) as their teaching aid.
  • Enterprise Ghana is a module under which graduate trainees are trained and work with business to develop their skills on how to be an entrepreneur. This module is aimed at engaging graduate discipline of any level.
  • Digitize Ghana is a module under which graduate are to work in various Information Communication Technology (ICT) of various institution whereby as they are on the job they learn to improve upon their digital skills. This module is aimed at engaging graduate student in ICT and other disciplines as well.
  • Feed Ghana is a model under which graduate trainees are to work with various agriculture institution in the country where by the end up building their capacity and skills. This is aimed at engaging graduate student of any level.
  • Heal Ghana is a module under which graduate trainees are to work in various hospital in the country there by improving their skills. This is aimed at engaging graduate student of any level.
  • Civil Ghana is a module under which graduate trainees work in the civil service and provide firsthand information on the job they are in thereby enabling them to develop the country. This is aimed at engaging graduate student of any level.
  • Revenue Ghana is a module under which graduate trainees would be working with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). They would improve upon their skills and ability in this module. This is aimed at engaging graduate who studied Accounting, Finance or student of any level.

NABCO cloth

The NABCO program provided the graduate trainees with an African cloth so that they can show that they are part of the program or create some kind of awareness when they go to work. The cloth was supposed to be worn on Mondays and Fridays only. However, the cloth was never distributed to NABCO Trainees[2].

NABCO App

The NABCO team created an app which is called the NABCO App. The app was created to be use by the graduate trainees to clock in and out when they come and leave from work, writing reports, training and getting updates. The app's duty is to monitor the trainees to ensure efficiency and productivity. The app runs on Android, IOS and Windows devices respectively.

Graduation/Passing out ceremony

On the 17th October, 2018 the trainees were invited to a passing out or graduation ceremony through a communique from the coordinator of NABCO Dr. Ibrahim Anyars. He issued out the invitation on behalf of the presidency[3].[4] On the day of the ceremony, graduates from the nook and cranny or length and breadth of the country trooped to the Independence or Black Star Square in their numbers. Most trainees from other regions were represented by a few but those from Greater Accra all attended the event. As the trainees were provided with T-Shirt this added color to the event.

The president, his vice president and ministers of state who attended the ceremony received a rousing welcome from the trainees.The event commenced with christian and muslim prayers. The master of ceremony for the event was the Minister Designate Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who called upon the NABCO Coordinator, Dr. Ibrahim Anyars, to provide a brief history of how the graduate recruitment began and statistics on who were recruited. Trainees were selected or volunteered matched to modules without any form of training.Representatives from various modules provided statistics on the number of people recruited and the costs associated with the three-year training.

The president's speech was insightful, provided additional statistics about the initiative and how far this initiative would encourage the Ghanaian youth to make a difference in the future. He also commended his vice and his team for the wonderful and amazing job the did bringing this initiative into fruition.
