Chapel Field Christian Schools is a Pre K – 12 Christian school located in Pine Bush, New York. [1] The school was founded in 1986 by William and Kathleen Spanjer.[2] The school's missions statement reads, "Chapel Field's mission is to partner with parents to cultivate a joyful community of students who love the truth, pursue wisdom and virtue, and live for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ." [3]

History

In 1979, the Spanjers founded Affirmative Evangelism Fellowship, a ministry devoted to Christian outreach.[4] The ministry developed into a Christian high school in 1986.[5] Despite its humble beginnings, the school's reputation began to grow as did it's numbers. In the early 2000's Chapel Field began developing a middle school program and in 2005 plans began for an elementary school building. In 2007, Chapel Field Elementary School began its first full school year. In 2013, the school rolled out its first official Pre K program, making it a Pre K through 12th grade school.

In the late 2000's the school established its international program. As of 2019, students from over 15 countries across 5 continents have attended the school. Chapel Field expanded its international initiative to include a boarding program in 2016. The boarding program is also available to domestic students.

Chapel Field is accredited by the National Association of Private Schools,[6] and incorporated under the University of the State of New York. Chapel Field is a member of several athletic leagues and music associations, and has been recognized numerous times for outstanding performances in both athletics and music.

Chapel Field Schools has been consistently ranked as one of the "50 Best Christian Schools in America" since The Best Schools (T.B.S.) began its annual rankings. [7]

Campus

Chapel Field's 100 acre campus is located in the Hudson Valley region of New York State. Bridges span the Dwaarkill River,[8] which runs through the center of the campus and is partially fed by the 2.5 acre lake on the southwestern end. Parents and students have complimented the it's views of the Shawangunk Ridge. [9] The school makes use of 4 buildings and 6 athletic fields.

Academics

Chapel Field publicly shares it academic philosophy. In early February 2019, the school released its official statement on academics: "Education at Chapel Field starts with the insight that every child is created in the image of God, with a body, mind and soul designed to thrive on what is good, true and beautiful. The curriculum emphasizes traditional and time-tested methods that awaken students’ curiosity and love of learning. Students explore great ideas and books through discussion, where they learn to hone their reasoning abilities and defend truth graciously and persuasively. Their moral character and virtue are encouraged across the curriculum. Classes in math, science, Bible, history and art all point students towards Christ, the Word in whom all things hold together. Students’ faith is challenged to grow and flourish as they think through difficult questions about their beliefs, and read the great works of Scripture and church history. Service to neighbor and community is not only a requirement at Chapel Field – it is viewed as a high and noble calling from God. The Chapel Field graduate goes out into the world God has called them to serve rooted in the truth, prepared to be a loving and effective ambassador of Christ’s kingdom." [10]

Athletics

Chapel Field is part of the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association(OCIAA) in Class D.[11] It is one of only a few private schools in the Hudson Valley that compete athletically with public schools. [12][13] They participate in varsity, JV, and modified sports, including, Soccer(Boys/Girls); Basketball(Boys/Girls); Baseball (Boys); Softball (Girls); Track (Boys/Girls); Cross Country (Boys/Girls).[14] Students may also potentially participate in other sports, depending on their local public school's policies.
