Static micro-portal abandoned since 2006. No list of topics, no rotation of topics, just a few changes to some of the sub-pages.
Created[1] in March 2006 YellowMonkey (talk · contribs), whos elast edit was in 2010. The lead of WP:POG says "Portals which require manual updating are at a greater risk of nomination for deletion if they are not kept up to date. Do not expect other editors to maintain a portal you create" ... and this one has not been maintained.
Special:PrefixIndex/Portal:Swimming shows only a small set of sub-pages:
- Portal:Swimming/Selected article. Same topic (International Swimming Federation) since 2007[2]
- Portal:Swimming/Selected athlete. One change of topic, in 2016[3], after same topic for 10 years
- Portal:Swimming/Selected picture. Image changed only twice in 13 years: 2007[4] and 2012[5]
- Portal:Swimming/Swimming news. Updates in 2007, 2008, 2016, and 2017[6]
- Portal:Swimming/Quotes. Same quote since 2011, unsourced[7]
- Portal:Swimming/Featured material. Created in 2007. Only one update, in 2016[8]
- Portal:Swimming/Did you know. Same single item since 2006, which as far as I can see is nothing to do with WP:DYK. . Per WP:DYK, "The DYK section showcases new or expanded articles that are selected through an informal review process. It is not a general trivia section" ... but this is just a trivia section, contrary to WP:TRIVIA.
WP:POG#How_often_to_update? says that unless automated, the content selection should be updated monthly, or preferably weekly. Even on a monthly cycle, this pseudo-portal has missed well over 100 updates in all.
In theory, swimming is a broad topic. But in practice, it has not met the WP:POG requirement that portals should be about "broad subject areas, which are likely to attract large numbers of interested readers and portal maintainers". It has had only v occasional updates to only some pages, but has not been maintained.
Per WP:PORTAL, "Portals serve as enhanced 'Main Pages' for specific broad subjects". But this is massively less useful in every respect than the head article swimming.
Maybe someone will find a way to make such a better portal, and a team of editors to maintain it ... so I propose that this portal and its sub-pages be deleted per WP:TNT, without prejudice to recreating a curated portal in accordance with whatever criteria the community may have agreed at that time.
