On September 22, 2018, a "special edition" of the film was aired that features a behind the scenes interview with Shannen Doherty.

Plot

One day after school, Sarah Collins (Matreya Scarrwener) and her best friend Nikki Farrow (Chanelle Peloso) go to watch their school's wrestling match where Sarah develops a crush on wrestler and fellow student Rob Tennison (Callan Porter). Rob Tennison is most popular and star wrestler in his high school. She is pleasantly surprised to find out that he has started to show a romantic interest in her as well and they start dating. Soon, however, he starts becoming controlling towards Sarah and at one point, during a get-together at Rob's lake house, Sarah's friends pressure her into reading a poem that Rob had texted her and Rob takes her cell phone outside, Sarah follows him out and he throws it at her in anger, breaking it. Rob apologizes, reminds him of how much he loves her, and offers to buy her a new cell phone and they make up. Nikki comes out and from a distance sees a girl living next door and they wave at each other, but the other girl gets scared after seeing Rob behind Nikki and leaves her confused.

Rob buys Sarah a new cell phone as he promised, he even sets up a photo of him as the lock-screen. He calls her for the first time as she is getting ready to study for a test in her bedroom after school. For that reason, she tells him she can't talk at the moment. However, after they hang up, Nikki calls Sarah, needing a place to get away from her alcoholic mother. Rob finds out and gets angry at Sarah, claiming she lied to him. Nikki overhears their phone conversation and calls Rob's friend, Gus (Ricky He), and asks about the girl she saw next door to Rob's lake house and finds out that they dated the previous summer and asks Gus to trust her on her question for awhile and she would let him know what was going on. Sarah talks with her mother, Laura (Shannen Doherty), about her concern about her relationship with Rob, but although Laura thinks he's jealous, she just thinks the case is that he just doesn't want to lose her.

Later that night, Rob visits the Collins's house with an expensive dress he bought for Sarah for the upcoming school dance, and Laura brings her talk with Sarah to his attention. However, Rob insists that there is nothing Sarah could do that would change how he feels about her. One day, Sarah takes a photo of herself wearing a miniskirt and posts it online. Rob doesn't take kindly to this however, and tells her she looks like a cheap "slut". She goes to his lake house to apologize and is greeted by Rob's mother (Ona Grauer), even though Rob had told her earlier that his parents were away. Rob turns the situation around on Sarah, claiming she forced her way into meeting his mother and that she always nags him, and punches her to the ground. Sarah breaks up with him after that and tells him not to contact her. Later on, she takes her frustration out on her mother. Sarah and Rob get back together later on that day after he promises to stop and gives Sarah a ring, making her promise that they will be together forever.

After Sarah tells Nikki that they broke up and got back together, Nikki tells her that he's not going to change like he promised, but Sarah accuses her of betrayal.

Sarah had enough of Rob pushing her around after the incident at the prom. Sarah broke up with him. Rob called Sarah and wanted to talk. Sarah reluctantly go over talk to him and told him it is over. Rob never bought it and wants to get back together with her. Sarah told him, she was done.

Some days later, Sarah is picked up by Rob and Zack. She later turns out missing. Zack had no knowledge of this due to him being asleep in the car as Rob claimed that she left. This leaves Laura and Nikki suspicious. When Rob visits Laura, she voices her recently-obtained knowledge on what he did to Sarah and angrily tells him to leave her house. Laura and Nikki visit the place that Sarah first met Rob where they find her phone. A search team was sent into the lake where they find her body.

Rob was arrested by the police and charged with first degree of murder as his mother calls her husband while planning to call a lawyer for her son. At the trial that was used as the framing wraparound, Judge Elizabeth Hanover (Mira Sorvino) hears the different testimonies as Laura tells Nikki during one of her testimonies that what happened to Sarah was not her fault. A flashback showed that Rob accidentally asphyxiated Sarah. While Judge Hanover reads the guilty verdict, she does mention that the fight between female abuse still happens anywhere and tells the witnesses to tell someone next time they see a friend being abused instead of standing by and doing nothing, implying how it could have saved Sarah from getting killed.

The school puts up a mural for Sarah. A distraught Nikki visits Laura and cries, remembering her and Sarah's friendship and guiltily wishing that she had acted sooner to have saved her as they both mourn Sarah's death.
