Project Veritas is an American right-wing activist group.[1][2][3][4] It was founded in 2010 by James O'Keefe. The group's productions have been widely criticized and dismissed as misleading, fabricated or taken out of context.[5][2][6] In 2017, it was caught in a failed attempt to trick the The Washington Post into posting a fabricated story about Roy Moore.[3][7][8][2] O'Keefe and Project Veritas have been sued for defamation repeatedly, at least one of those suits leading to an apology and $100,000 damages.[9][10][11] O'Keefe has been barred from fundraising for Project Veritas in Florida and other states because of his federal criminal record for entering a federal building under fraudulent pretenses.[12][13]
Funding
Much of the funding for Project Veritas comes from anonymous donations through Donors Trust, a conservative, American nonprofit donor-advised fund, which according to its promotional materials, says that it will "keep your charitable giving private, especially gifts funding sensitive or controversial issues."[14] Prominent donors include the Trump Foundation, which, in May 2015, donated $10,000.[15][16]
