The Institute for Mathematics and its Applications is distinct from the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications in England.

The Institute for Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) is a body whose mission is "to increase the impact of mathematics by fostering research of a truly interdisciplinary nature, linking mathematics of the highest caliber and important scientific and technological problems from other disciplines and industry." It is affiliated with the University of Minnesota, on whose campus it is headquartered.
