Psychological changes during pregnancy

The increased levels of progesteroneand estrogeninduce changes in the gum tissueand oral cavity; the gum tissues become more prone to irritants.[1]The flow of blood and permeability of vessels increase in the periodontium, in addition to changes occurring in the collagenproduction. Decreased calciumand phosphatereduces the salivapHvalues, altering the composition of saliva, and the medium of the oral cavity.[2]
