Function creep
FUNCTION CREEP: is what occurs when an item, process, or procedure designed for a specific purpose ends up serving another purpose for which it was never planned to perform. Sort of like the British idiots who are trying to take the term "function creep" and turn it into "functionality creep"... Google both terms, you'll see what the real phrase is.
Attempting to change the vernacular of the People thru re-directs, etc is exactly the kind of filth my website is trying to prevent. Go ahead and erase this while you're at it.
Hopefully some self-righteous idiot won't erase and re-direct yr precious "functionality creep" page to this page. That would be really uncool.
Terminology Debate
I agree that "function creep" is the preferred term rather than "functionality creep". The definitions, as given by dictionary.com, and the 37,800 hits for "function creep" on Google versus the 2,680 Google hits for "functionality creep" back up this assertation. So, in the interest of making knowledge available to eveyone, refer to the subject of this page as "function creep". Otherwise, the issue will be made muddier by trying to redefine or invent terms.
