Paleophasianus is a extinct genus of flightless Geranoididae bird that lived in North America during the Eocene period. Shufeldt classified Paleophasianus as a Galliform when described at 1913, and later transferred to Cracidae in 1964 by Brodkorb. However Cracraft 1968 had placed it to Gruiformes. [1]
