PVS

The acronym PVS can stand for more than one thing:

• Persistent vegetative state;
• Polynesian Voyaging Society;
• Positive Vacuum Supply, a system to advance or retard the ignition system spark timing in an internal combustion engine, by using engine vacuum, in the distributor.
• Post-Vietnam syndrome;
• Potentially visible set, a technique to speed-up BSP-Tree navigation in FPS games;
• Principal variation search;
• Prototype Verification System, a specification language used for the formal specification and verification of software;
• A satirical news channel on the BBC's programme Broken news :- see PVS (channel).
• Prisoner Visitation and Support, a prison-visitation program in the United States Federal and Military prisons.
• Personal Viewing Sight with a numerical suffix to designate the model. PVS's are used by the american military for passive (non-thermal) night vision. PVS suffixes range from PVS-2 through PVS-22 skipping PVS-16 for some reason. Mst military PVS's have a civilian equivalant model number.
