Holocaust Remembrance Day
Holocaust Remembrance Day (he:יום השואה) is an Israeli national memorial day for the 6 million jewish people who died at the holocaust (in world war 2) by the Nazis and their allies.
This national day was enacted at 1959 (signed by David Ben-Gurion and Yitzhak Ben-Zvi, prime minister of Israel and president of Israel, respectively) and says that every year, on the 27th of Sivan (Jewish calendar date), but is moved if that day is on weekend. The memorial day starts at sunset and ends when that stars come out (like every other day in the jewish calendar). In the 'Holocaust Remembrance Day', usually all public entertainment is forbidden and all public establishments are closed(by law). Also, the television plays mostly documentaries of the holocaust. at 10am, there is a two minute long siren. During the siren, all people stand in respect for the deceased. Even the transportation (private and public) stops at the siren and the whole passengers get out of their cars (or buses) and stand. At schools and the army, there are ceremonies that commemorate the holocaust. All the Israeli public establishments' flags are half-masted during the remembrance day.
