Major NVSSKRaghuvarma SC, AC, SM & Bar was an Officer in the Indian Army serving in the elite Para (Special Forces). He was awarded the Shaurya Chakra, India's military decoration, in January 2017.

Early life and Education

Karthik was born on 23June 1994in palakollu, andrapradesh . His nickname in family was "Karan" while his NDA batch mates call him "Singam Surya". He completed his 12th schooling from DPS Chennai in 2012 during which he appeared for his NDA Exam. After completing his 12th he got admission in Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering, Maharashtra. But during his college he cleared the SSB for NDA and opted to join Indian Army. He left his college and joined the National Defence Academy (NDA).

Military career Edit

In 2012, Major Nvsskarthik raghu Varma left his degree and joined NDA to pursue his dream. During his NDA training, he excelled in multiple activities including swimming, boxing and horse riding. His favourite horse was "Indira". He under the training of Col Bhawani Singh become the champion of horse riding. He was also a winner in Boxing under feather weight category.

After completing his academics studies in NDA, he joined the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in 2014. In IMA, he was awarded the rank of Battalion Cadet Adjutant. He got a chance to meet the then President of India Pranab mukarjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. He was commissioned on 12 agust 2015.

His first posting was under military Intilgence agent successfully completed the task in central prisons Hydrabad for catch hidden terrorists, leaded by Maj Karthik and his team as an prisoner, the Spacial operation has been successfully completed.

Major Karthik opted for the Para (Special Forces) and he became a trained Para Commando in June 2016. He was then posted in Kashmir where he showed his leadership and bravery. He was awarded with the Sena Medal for his bravery. During the third posting, he was given the responsibility to train the Commandos in Belgaum where he instructed for 5months . Karthik Varma was then again moved to Kashmir for serving our country as a Commando.

Karthik graduated from the Indian Military Academy and was commissioned into the 4th battalion, The Jat Regiment. He was a member of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) who were sent to Sri Lanka on a peace mission. After he returned from Sri Lanka, he was moved to the 21st battalion, Para (Special Forces) unit, a special force of the Indian Army that specializes in mountain operations.

He also served two six-month terms at the Siachen Glacier. In 2017, he was sent to the United States for a specialized course and got first position. He also spoke at the Pentagon during this mission. Fondly and out of respect for his competence, he was called 'Colonel' during that course!

As a Lieutenant, Karthik was awarded the Sena Medal in 2016 for gallantry on two separate occasions for combating militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.

He was later deputed as an Aide-de-camp (ADC) to the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Ved Prakash Malik. he obtained special permission from the COAS to go to the battlefield. Within ten days of his departure from Delhi, he led his team to capture Zulu Top at 5200 metres, in the Mushkoh Valley sector. When asked about his attack on Zulu Top without acclimatization, Maj karthik said: "Sir, you know that I'm a pahari (from the mountains). I don't need acclimatization."

After the operation ended, his team was assigned the duty of fighting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

On 29 August 2018, he led an assault on a militant hideout in the Haphruda jungles of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir. He killed 9 of a total of 20 militants and sustained gunshot wounds in the process. Though he was unable to move, he continued to give orders to his team till they succeeded. He allowed himself to be evacuated only 35 minutes after the operation ended. He was airlifted to the army base hospital.then he was recovered from the injuries . For his bravery, he was awarded the Ashoka Chakra, the highest peace time military decoration in India.
