Jade Amelia Thirlwall (born 26 December 1992) is a British singer-songwriter.[1][2] She is a member of British four-piece girl group Little Mix. Group was formed exclusively for the eighth series of The X Factor in 2011 and became the first, and so far, only group to win the competition.

Early Life

Thirlwall was born and raised in the Laygate neighborhood of South Shields, Tyne and Wear with her single mother and brother Karl.[3] She has one-quarter Egyptian ancestry and one-quarter Yemeni ancestry.[4] She also auditioned for The X Factor in 2008 and 2010 but got eliminated at Bootcamp stage.[5][6] She attended performing arts college South Tyneside, where she studied a range of courses.[7]

Career

X-Factor & Little Mix: 2011-present

Thirlwall's first audition on The X Factor was "I Want to Hold Your Hand" by The Beatles. Thirlwall earned 4 yeses as she was through to boot camp.[8] 186 contestants had arrived at the Seldon Park Hotel, Croydon as the four judges: Louis Walsh, Tulisa Contostavalos, Kelly Rowland, and Gary Barlow were standing on the terrace. However, 35 contestants were to go home without performing in front of the judges. Among the 151 contestants who were to perform in front of the judges on the first day of boot camp was the four girls: Leigh-Anne Pinnock,  Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards, and Jade Thirlwall who were performing as solo artists. After the first day of boot camp, the 151 who had performed in front of the judges was reduced to 56 and neither Leight-Anne, Jesy, Perrie nor Jade were in the 56 contestants. However, on 16 August 2011, 24 rejected contestants were recalled by the judges. Jade and Leigh-Ann were to be put in a group and Perrie and Jesy were in another group. Because of the new 6 groups, the number of acts increased from 56 to 61.[9] On 18 August 2011, each of the 61 acts performed in front of the judges and an audience of 5000 at Wembley Arena, London. However, the group containing Perrie and Jasy nor the group with Jade and Leigh-Ann didn't go through. Later on, seven groups had made it through to Judges Houses, but the judges decided that an eighth group was needed and they discussed forming one more group... by taking two girls from one group and two girls from another group whom turned out to be Leigh-Anne Pinnock,  Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards, and Jade Thirlwall forming the four-piece group Rhythmix, sending them through to the judges' houses.[10] They eventually reached the live shows and were mentored by Tulisa Contostavlos.[11] On 28 October 2011, it was announced that the group's new name would be "Little Mix".[12] On 11 December, Little Mix were announced as the winners, the first-ever group to win.[13]
