The 2020 Minneapolis Riots is an ongoing series of protests and riots in response to the Death of George Floyd, which began a day after the death occurred.


Background

George Floyd was a 46 year old African American man who died in police custody at the hands of officers from the Minneapolis Police Department. Floyd was restrained by 3 officers, while one of the officers who have been identified as Derek Chauvin, violently knelt into Floyd’s neck for an estimated 8 minutes, while a forth officer observed.

Events

Hundreds around Minneapolis began peacefully protesting a day after the incident occurred due to a video that went viral showing the situation unfold.
