Spaced Invaders is a 1990 science fiction comedy directed by Patrick Read Johnson and starring Tony Cox, Royal Dano and a young Ariana Richards. The title of the flim is a play on the video game Space Invaders.
Plot
As the armed forces of the planet Mars fight a vast interstellar war under the direction of imperious "Enforcer Drones", the idiotic crew of a small Martian spaceship intercepts a rebroadcast of Orson Welles' 1938 The War of the Worlds radio dramatization. Mistaking this for the real thing, they land the ship in a podunk, drought-stricken farming community (Big Bean, Illinois) and ineptly attempt to conquer Earth.
On Halloween.
Their appearance is taken to be very good costumes, except by a handful of locals who know the truth.
Quotes
Sheriff: "I came here to get away from this sort of thing!"
Deputy: "This happened a lot in Chicago?"
Martian Commander (over radio): "Meet us at the Wrenchmuller farm."
Martian pilot (to local): "Where do you grow your wrenchmullers?"
Martian Pilot: "Just for the record, I thought this was a bad idea."
Enforcer Drone: "Just for the record, you'd better be wrong!"
Fleeing Martian: "'Prepare to die Earth scum, prepare to die Earth scum!' I'm gonna make sure they carve that on your tombstone!"
