History

7th March 1793 - Frances Humberstone MacKenzie raises the 78th (Highland) Regiment of Foot

1795 Renamed the 78th (Highland) Regiment of Foot, or The Ross-shire Buffs

1857 Anglo-Persian Warunder command of General Stalker

April. 1873 The Linked Regiments Depot System links the 78th Highlanders with the 71st Highland Light Infantry at 55 Brigade Depot, Fort George.

1881 – Amalgamated with 72nd Highlanders as 2nd Battalion The Seaforth Highlanders (Ross-shire Buffs)
