  • Comment: are you describing the general method "Callan method"., in lower case, a a method proposed by Callen, and presumably can be taught be anyone who learns how to do it , for example by reading his books, --and which is also taught by a number of schools who have been in some fashion "Accredited" by someone, & which some organization presumably originally authorized by him call "Accredited Schools".
or the Callan Method in upper case, a method which, though known to the public through his books, can be taught properly only by a certain group of "Accredited Schools" accredited by some organization in a tradition apparently derived from him.
If you mean the former, remove most of the material about the organization. or make it clear that the method is taught by this group, but also by others. If the organization claims nobody but them is authorized to use the method (lower case), say so explicitly, and indicate how this is enforced and if there are any legal protections, or any cases.
at the very least if you say " Accredited Schools", say accredited by whom. DGG ( talk ) 02:49, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
Hi DGG, I've updated the article based on your feedback, I hope this is now ok for publishing.

The Callan Method Group is a organization that teaches English and Spanish to non-native speakers of the languages, using an audiolinguali method originally devised by Robin Callan from Cambridgeshire, England in the 1960s.. it is teacher-centred, avoids the learner's mother tongue, and places a strong emphasis on the development of listening and speaking skills.

Creation of the Callan Method

Callan's philosophy was that students should, from the outset, be exposed to the target language spoken at regular speed and that pronunciation errors should always be corrected immediately. He felt that classes should be engaging and dynamic and that learners must be actively involved throughout. Callan spent ten years writing and perfecting his method then opened the first language school dedicated to using it, in Oxford Street, London.

Principles of the Method

Robin Callan's objective was that students would learn to speak English fluently and with confidence. This goal has never changed, nor has the structure of them method used by the group, though the books in current use have been updated to reflect modern language usage.[citation needed] Correction by imitation ie. copying a pronunciation error then correcting it, is a fundamental part of the teaching.

The group's's course for learners of English, is divided into Stages 1-12; each stage with a book for students and a version with additional notes for teachers. All books consist of carefully scripted questions to which individual students, selected at random by the teacher, respond using full sentences. The questions have been prepared so as to present new areas of language whilst systematically recycling previously introduced grammar and vocabulary[1][2][3]. The content is compatible with the Common European Framework of Reference For Languages. Stages 1-6 prepare students to B1 level (190 hours), Stages 1-9 to B2 level (295 hours). The classroom hours needed to reach each level is calculated according to the typical average of new work/number of pages covered per class.

International spread

From 1970, new language schools opened outside the UK teaching with the group's method. They were initially widespread located in Brazil, Italy and Poland , and school owners were often former students at Callan School in London, Now [when?] hundreds [citation needed]of schools in the UK, Europe, South America and Asia use it.

In 2020 the first of the group's school in USA opened in Atlanta, Georgia to teach English and Spanish[citation needed]

Publications

In addition to the core English course (12 books) the group's method is available as Callan for Kids (6 books), Callan Español (6 books) and Callan for Business (1 book). Callan Student Grammar Workbooks, levels A1 to B2, can be used in preparation for international examinations.

An online practice area was introduced in 2014 for students to practice language skills in English and Spanish. In 2020 an online version of their classroom was developed to provide an online teaching environment.
