Margaret Brenman-Gibson was a pioneer in the use of hypnosis in the treatment of neurosis resulting from war and related areas.[1] She was the first non-physician to receive full clinical and research psychoanalytic training in America.[2] In 1982 she was one of the first women to receive a Harvard professorship[3] as Clinical Professor of Psychology.[4] She has a Masters in Anthropology from Columbia University[5] and a doctorate in Psychology from the University of Kansas.[6] She was Clifford Odets[7] biographer.[8] She was the only female psychotherapist[9] on the staff at the Austen Riggs Center[10] and was recognized[11] as a notable member of staff at the organization’s centenary anniversary,[12] playing a key role in the organization’s establishment as a leading psychiatric hospital and treatment center. Brenman-Gibson also contributed to the film 'Erik Erikson: A Life’s Work.'[13]
