History

Oxnard State Beach

The City of Oxnard has over 20 miles of coastline. The beaches in Oxnard are large and the sand is very soft. The sand dunes in Oxnard are massive. There are very few rocks or driftwood at many of the beaches, but Oxnard is known to have dangerous rip-currents on some beachs during different times of year. Oxnard is home to amazing surf. Surf can at times reach hights of up to 15 foot break.

Beaches in Oxnard include: Mugu Rock State Beach, Ormond Beach, Hueneme Beach, Silver Strand Beach, Hollywood Beach, Hollywood-By-the-Sea, Mandalay Beach, Oxnard State Beach, Oxnard Shores, 5th Street Beach, McGrath State Beach and Rivermouth Beach.

Barbeque area

Oxnard Beach is a nice spot to have a leisurely walk. Starting at Oxnard State Beach, there are walkways under palm trees. Pathways lead through the dunes and to the beach. In spring there are wildflowers. Residents come here to walk their pets and enjoy sunshine. You can walk south on the bike path to the dunes to find many restaurants and hotels. During winter months the weather can be cold and windy. Oxnard Beach Park includes two spacious barbeque areas with a capacity of 200 occupants in which each include a public sink, table, and a large grill.

From U.S. 101 in Oxnard, take the Victoria Avenue South exit. Proceed about five miles south to Channel Island Boulevard and follow it to the Harbor Boulevard intersection. Turn right, proceed one block on Harbor Boulevard, and then make a left on Mandalay Beach Road. Park at the curb or in the free public lot; you're at the south end of Oxnard State Beach Park.
