Bill Haslam (born 1958) is the mayor of Knoxville, Tennessee. Although Knoxville's mayoral elections are nominally non-partisan, Haslam is a member of the Republican Party. He defeated Madeline Rogero to win election in 2003,[1] replacing retiring four-term mayor Victor Ashe, and was reelected with nominal opposition in 2007.[2] Haslam had been frequently mentioned as a possible candidate for the 2010 Tennessee gubernatorial election,[3][4] and he formally announced his candidacy for governor in a newsletter sent to supporters on January 7, 2009.

Prior to becoming mayor, Haslam was a vice-president of Pilot Corporation, a petroleum company founded by his father Jim Haslam which runs a nationwide chain of travel centers. In 2008, Bill's brother & current Pilot president James Haslam III became a minority partner in the Pittsburgh Steelers, purchasing a minority stake in order to keep controlling ownership within the Rooney family.[5] James III acquired a 16% stake in the team as part of the deal, though the Rooneys will remain as primary owners.

2010 Gubenatorial Bid

On January 6, 2009, Mayor Haslam declared his intent to run for Tennessee governor in 2010.
