Black cod is a common name for several ray-finned fishes, none closely related to the true cods of order Gadiformes, family Gadidae:

  • Order Scorpaeniformes
  • Order Perciformes
    • Family Serranidae "groupers"
    • Family Nototheniidae "cod icefishes"
