'''Casma River''', is the main water obstacle that crosses the North part of the province of Casma, has like main affluents by the right margin the Sechín river and by the left the Grande river.

The river basin of the Casma river is to 9º 30' South latitude and 45' extends from 77º to 78º 24' western length. It belongs to the hydrographic system of the Pacific and has its origin in the superior zone of the Black Mountain range, to the height from the lagoons Teclio, Mangan and 800 Shaullan to about 4 m.s.n.m. The river basin of the Casma river has a length of approximately 100 km and one 775 hydrographic river basin of 2 km2. The declivity of the river has an average between 4% to 5%, in its superior route the declivity exceeds 15%, and in the zone costeña is smaller to 4%.

The river begins its course with the name of Pira river (that is born to 4 100 m.s.n.m.), soon takes the name from Chacchan river when receiving other affluents until Pariacoto (Province of Huaraz), where it receives waters of the Cochabamba river (also called Akrun river). From it runs there to
Yaután, where it joins his waters with the Yaután river to the height of Poctao, taking the name from Grande river or Casma river until the height of the city of Casma (Black Vein), receiving the
contribution of the Sechín river or Loco river, taking the name from Tabón river until something to the north of the Casma Port ends at the Pacific.
