Fields of scholarship addressed in such works include history, historiography, archaeology, anthropology, linguistics, ethnology, bibliography, art history, literature, and so on.

This category is intended for works of Mesoamericanist scholarship; for works that are primary sources for Mesoamerican studies—codices, lienzos, manuscripts, grammars, pre- or post-conquest literature sources, etc—the category Category:Mesoamerican documents and its subcategories should be used instead.
