Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro Jr. (born 17 June 2010) is a footballer who plays as a forward for the Mahd Academy in Saudi Arabia. His father Cristiano Ronaldo plays for Al-Nassr.
Early life
Ronaldo Jr. was born in San Diego, California, in the United States to Portuguese international footballer and all time men's international record goal-scorer Cristiano Ronaldo. On 3 July 2010, Ronaldo Sr. announced his birth, with his mother being an unknown surrogate.[1] Ronaldo Sr. reportedly paid €12,000,000 to guarantee full custody, and claimed that the mother wished to remain anonymous.[2][3]
Ronaldo Jr.'s upbringing has been notably strict by modern standards, with his father admonishing him for drinking Coca-Cola or eating French fries, as well as not allowing him to have a mobile phone of his own.[4][5]
Cristiano is of Cape Verdean descent through his great-great-grandmother.[6]
Club career
In the 2015 movie Ronaldo, chronicling his father's life, Ronaldo Jr. told his father that he wished to be a goalkeeper when he grew up, unlike his father, who played as a forward.[1] He reportedly started his career with Spanish side Real Madrid, where his father was playing at the time, though there is no evidence to support this claim.[7] His career did start in Spain, however, and he scored on his debut for Pozuelo de Alarcón in October 2016.[8]
He followed his father as he moved to Juventus in Italy in 2018, and immediately made an impact for the club's under-9 side, scoring four goals in a 5–1 friendly win against Lucento on his debut.[9] He finished his first season in Turin with 58 goals and 18 assists in just 28 games.[1]
He began being linked with Manchester United in September 2021, following his father's return to the club.[10] In February 2022, Ronaldo Jr. was pictured signing as a Manchester United player, joining the club alongside JJ Gabriel.[11] Just days after signing, he caused some controversy when he appeared to agree with a fan that Manchester United's first team performance had been "shit".[12]
He left Manchester United in late 2022, and was strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid.[13] However, after his father moved to Saudi Arabia to join Al Nassr, Ronaldo Jr. joined the Mahd Academy, the National Sports Centre in Riyadh, where he began playing with teammates two years his senior.[14]
