Enterohemorrhagic microorganisms are those that, as part of their pathogenesis, cause bloody diarrhea and colitis. It is observed that most cases are derived of E. coli serotype O157:H7, but many pathogens are equally capable. Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157:H7 is known to release verotoxin.
