To celebrate 50th Year of Independence for Malaysia, Khazanah Nasional has organized year long [http://www.kgl.com.my/ Khazanah Merdeka Series]. Khazanah Nasional Berhad is the investment holding arm of the government of Malaysia to manage its commercial assets. It is the trustee to the nation's financial assets. Its objectives are "to promote economic growth and make strategic investments on behalf of the government which would contribute towards nation building". It was incorporated in September, 1993 and began operations in 1994. It is structured into a holding company that is a wholly owned entity of the Ministry of Finance (MOF) which is part of the Malaysian Government.

Khazanah Nasional Bhd saw the value of its assets jump 87 per cent to RM62.2 billion over the last three years since a programme to revamp state-owned firms started in May 2004.Khazanah has also made a total return of RM8.9 billion on 28 new investments worth RM21.1 billion in the last three years.

Key principles of Khazanah Nasional's mandate as a strategic investment house include

  • Cultivating a culture of high performance

These are to be achieved via four strategic initiatives

  • 1. Legacy investments: streamline, restructure, develop
  • 2. GLC transformation: Increase shareholder and strategic value

  • 4. Human Capital Management: New management practices and reward systems
