Mark Twain Village

Mark Twain Village is a United States Army installation located in the Südstadt district of Heidelberg, Germany. It is one of two American bases in the United States Army Garrison Heidelberg that house American soldiers and their families (the other being Patrick Henry Village). MTV is located adjacent to Campbell Barracks, which serves as the home to the Headquarters of :United States Army Europe (USAREUR), the Headquarters for NATO's Allied Land Forces Central Europe (LANDCENT), and the Installation Management Command Europe Region(IMCOM-E).

Located at the base is an Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) shoppette, a library, a chapel, the Mark Twain Elementary School, and the Heidelberg High School, which both serve American military dependant children living in the surrounding area. The high school serves students from Mark Twain Village, nearby Patrick Henry Village, and their respective surrounding areas. Heidelberg High is one of the largest DoDDS schools in Germany with approximately eight hundred students as of 2008.

Part of MTV's housing area was shut down and given back to the the city of Heidelberg starting from August 4, 2006 to August 9, 2006. In the long run, this saved $1,800,000. The area was farther away from the other sections, which was the reason return that area to the city of Heidelberg. It is currently being renovated by the local contractors with some buildings already accommodating civilians.

Another part of MTV's housing area is now being used by NATO personnel.

2003, after the 9/11 attacks in 2001, a fence has been installed around PHV and all other United States Army installations in Heidelberg. Before that there was no ID necessary for the area, now there's gated access which requires United States Army ID to pass.
