Michael W. Kempner is the founder, President, and CEO of the MWW Group, a public relations firm headquartered in East Rutherford, New Jersey.[1][2] He is also known for his political contributions and fundraising for the Democratic Party.[3][4][5][6] He is a Deputy Finance Chair of the Democratic National Committee, a National Finance co-chair for Hillary Clinton's 2008 Presidential run, Deputy Finance Director of the Obama campaign, a member of Obama for President National Finance Committee, and is a member of the DNC National Finance Council.[7]

Kempner became a member of the Broadcasting Board of Governors in December 2014.[8]

Education

In 1981, Kempner earned a Bachelor of Science from American University in Washington, D.C.[2][7] He is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Committee of the American University School of Communications.[7]

Career

Kempner founded MWW Group in 1986. He is also a founding board member of ConnectOne Bancorp (NASDAQ: CNOB).[2][7] Kempner is a lecturer, writer, and Huffington Post contributor on topics such as public relations, management, marketing, and crisis communications.[7]

Kempner is a government servant and political fundraiser.[7][7][9] He was one of Hillary Clinton’s National Finance co-chairs and a lead fundraiser for her 2008 bid for the U.S. Presidency.[3] He later took up a “significant fundraising role” for President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign.[3]

In 2010, Kempner hosted a $30,400/plate Democratic Party fundraising dinner attended by President Obama at his home in Cresskill, New Jersey.[4][10][11] In December 2010, President Obama appointed Kempner a member of the White House Council for Community Solutions, a council that works to "reengage disenfranchised youth."[1][7][12]

In January 2014, President Obama nominated Kempner to the Broadcasting Board of Governors, which oversees Voice of America and other federally controlled outlets that operate overseas.[13] Kempner's nomination was confirmed and he took office in December of that year.[14]

Kempner is on the International Board of Goodwill Industries and the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship.[1] In 2013, Kempner donated $50,000 to Organizing for Action.[5]

Kempner has won awards for his work with MWW.

In 2012, he received the International Business Awards’ Public Relations Executive of the Year, the 2012 American Business Awards’ PR Executive of the Year, and the 2012 PR News Awards’ Professional of the Year.[1]

In 2013, he received the American Business Awards’ Executive of the Year in the Advertising, Marketing & Public Relations category,[17] the 2013 Bulldog Stars of PR Awards’ Communications Professional of the Year and the 2013 Bulldog Stars of PR Awards’ Agency Professional of the Year.[18]

Kempner has also been inducted into the PR Hall of Fame by PR News. Kempner was presented The Gay And Lesbian Victory Fund's 2014 Corporate Leadership Award by actor Wilson Cruz. He accepted the award on behalf of MWW.[19]
