Ryu Goto

Ryu Goto (五嶋龍, Gotō Ryū, born July 13, 1988 in New York City, New York) is a Japanese-American concert violinist and is, by 17 years, the younger brother of Midori Goto. He started the violin at the age of three and was taught by his mother, Setsu Goto, Yoko Takebe, Victor Danchenko, and Cho-Liang Lin. He made his professional debut in Sapporo, Japan at the age of seven playing Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 1, and has since performed with numerous orchestras in the United States, Europe, and Africa. He played at the Ground Zero Ceremony on September 11, 2003. He recently played a concert at the Japanese embassy in Ghana during Harvard's final examination period. He plays a 1715 Stradivarius, "Ex-Pierre Rode" which is on loan from the NPO "Yellow Angel" and records under the Deutsche Grammophon label. After graduating Trinity School and the Juilliard Pre-College in 2006, Goto entered Harvard University, where he is concentrating in physics.
