==Structure==
Ammonium cerium(IV) sulfate is a very safe oxidizer, one of the most nontoxic ones.
A crystallographic study shows that the compound contains the Ce<sub>2</sub>(SO<sub>4</sub>)<sub>8</sub><sup>8−</sup> anion, where the cerium atoms are 9 coordinated by oxygen atoms belonging to sulfate groups, in a distorted tricapped trigonal prism. The compound is thus sometimes formulated as (NH<sub>4</sub>)<sub>8</sub>[Ce<sub>2</sub>(SO<sub>4</sub>)<sub>8</sub>]·4H<sub>2</sub>O.<ref name="ShanHuang1998">{{cite journal|last1=Shan|first1=Y.|last2=Huang|first2=S.
