Braunsberg, Warmia, Prussia College founded by Stanislaus Hosius

To read up up on Collegium Hosianum/Lyceum Hosianum [1] here a number of links , books, history, information, which keeps getting removed Lyceum Hosianum Collegium Hosianum info

  • I don't know the naming conventions of en-wiki, but I just have read vote on Gdańsk/Danzig. So for this period (i.e. XVI-XVIII c., and also later) I think you're right, as the naming conventions should be conistent and logical.
  • I don't think we shuld add to many historical details to the article, so I'll remove some of them.
  • Regarding Hosius: the title of cardinal is more important than the tite of prince-bishop and one cannot use both these titles at the same time. We can write he was a prince-bishop once, but not many times.
  • Regarding in-text links: I don't think links to Googlebooks are really necessary. Be need rather some links to particular books, formated as proper refs. (I will add some bibliography in a few days).
  • Regarding the title of the article: in Jesuit times it was collegium, a specific type of a school. I'm not sure, but it seems that the name of "Lyceum" (and why not "licaeum", as it should be in Latin - is it Latin or German name?) was in use only from 1818. But you can't write something like "collegium and lyceum were Jesuit collegium", because it seems to be a nonsense.
  • I will try to extend this article, so I need some peace, not edit-wars. See also discussion of the German article. Laforgue (talk) 15:38, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo Laforge,

the name Lyceum Hosianum did not only come up in 1818, when the education facility was newly built and openend, after if was destroyed by Napoleon in 1807. Over 600 books show up in google book search under spelling: Lyceum Hosianum and over 100 under name Collegium Hosianum. The books and particularly the book from Prof. Jos. Bender 1868 Braunsberg, explain in detail (in German language) that there were 2 or 3 different sections parts 1. the papal theological education facility , 2. the education facility for priests of the diocese (of Ermland/Warmia), 3. a facility to educate (to regain clergy for catholicism) in the (northern countries, Sweden) and Poles. It seems from some text in wiki that at some later years apparently some Polish people- (priests?) bought a piece of property to educate Polish clergy. The facilities were thus a compound for multi-regional education (the word propaganda was used in earlier times) all to counter Reformation, when Prussia, Germany and other northern countries all had become mostly Protestants (Lutheran or Calvinists), as well as many Polish-Lithuanians, such as Radziwill.

There are some people very active at wikipedia in proclaiming, "that everybody and everything has always been Polish" and they constantly insert their very strong nationalistic POV (point of view), always removing information, that shows otherwise.

In comparison the Polish wikipedia seems to do less of that (at least from what I can see without being able to read Polish). Here is the Polish wikipedia article Kolegium jezuickie Braniewo They call it (Jesuit Collegium Braniewo, (Braunsberg)) . When you scroll down you find long lists of the educators at the Collegium. Even though the names on the list are Polonized, it it pretty clear from the names, that they were not Polish people.

To your question about naming convention, the English language names are supposed to be used , for example German name Heinrich, they use Henry. But the Polish lobby at English wikipedia is extremely active in Polonizing every person and place name they can get away with. They wear other people out, force then to quit, by their constant reverts, and have thus created a number of false impressions (if not false inaccurate assumptions) by doing this. Wikipedia itself puts disclaimers on every page, that wikipedia is not reliable and should not be trusted. They also say, do not put info in wikipedia, if you do not want to constantly have it reverted. Apparently it was much worse, because they put up the 3rr Rule, only 3 reverts/removals in a 24 hr period.

I had inserted the books, for people to find info on internet. Its removed, but looking at previous history, people who are interest, can still find them. Best Regards 27 April 2008
