Tiger Prabhakar (Kannada: ಟೈಗರ್ ಪ್ರಭಾಕರ್) also known as Kannada Prabhakar was a popular actor in the Kannada film industry, known for playing both heroes and villains. He was an icon in Karnataka.[2]

Career

Prabhakar started his career by acting as a villain[3] in small-budget movies. His first film was Kaadina Rahasya. As his career progressed, he acted in stunt, action, and thriller movies. After playing the role of Tiger in Yaare Saakshi, he earned the sobriquet of Tiger. After gaining recognition, he went on to act in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam movies. He appeared in around 400 movies.

Prabhakar roles were very powerful and directors were in a dilemma about whom to cast as the hero. His muscular build and good looks added to the ferocity of his roles. His natural acting in many of Chiranjeevi's films as villain earned him the name "Kannada Prabhakar".

He moved into directing movies towards the latter part of his career. Bombay Dada and King were directed by him and he also acted in the movies.

He was a good technician. His body language and the style of delivering the dialogues was his specialty. He was an easy going man.

He produced films like Mahendra Varma and Mister Mahesh kumar. It was his own banner produced by his wife Jayamala. Both films were box-office hits.

In the mid-1980s Prabhakar was the most popular and demanded actor from all producers. He acted in number of emotional, family-oriented movies with top heroines like Aarthi, Manjula, Bhavya, etc. This is when reached his peak.

He'd played the role of a criminal Anil Raj in Amitabh Bachchan-Sridevi starrer Inquilaab (film).

He acted in some Malayalam movies with actors such as Mammootty and Suresh Gopi. His role as Hyder Marakkar in Dhruvam was much acclaimed.

Famous Kanglish quotes

Prabhakar introduced Kanglish into Kannada movies.[3] Kanglish is a mix of Kannada and English dialogs. Many mimicry artists recite his Kanglish dialogs.

Personal life

Prabhakar helped a lot of people and contributed large sums of money to charitable organizations. His move into politics was fueled by his passion to help people.

He had diabetes. When he developed diabetic gangrene, doctors advised him to get his leg amputated. He refused to do so. He became more and more ill and was admitted to Mallya Hospital. He died there at 10:15 p.m. on 25 March 2001.
