Speaking of "Favre" moments...
...Ironic, considering I just pulled a "Favre moment" myself. I was in full retirement for half a year, but then seeing one too many errors in some articles led me to ... do a few edits today and upgrade myself to "semi-retired." But, then, I stumble upon this... AutomaticStrikeout trying to go into full-blown retirement.

AutomaticStrikeout, as someone who just made their first few edits in about half a year (and honestly, never intended to come back to Wikipedia in the first place), I can say that sometimes ... this place isn't a picnic. Even though I chose to retire based on my own actions, I still wanted to make sure that a greatly presented, easy to navigate, and well-written free resource of decent information still existed out in this world. When I was editing before, I tried to become more involved than I honestly should, and that lead me to a passion of editing ... and a knack of arguing with a few select editors ... that got the best of me. Well ... after thinking about it for half a year, turns out that I don't have any desire to be part of these behind-the-scenes "power wars": I just want to fix a word here and there ... fix a link here and there ... and create a disambiguation page here and there. AutomaticStrikeout ... I don't know what led you to this point, but I understand the desire to leave, as well as the difficulty to finally get yourself to a point of finally going through with it. I finally managed to do it, and happy I did. Thanks to that, I found a new mission here: minor edits, and nothing else. For me, trying or caring to do any more than that is just too stressful.

Anyways, AutomaticStrikeout, in all honestly, I hope you can allow and/or force yourself to have an ACTUAL retirement: It's worth it. <font color="DarkSlateGray">Steel1943</font> (talk) 03:40, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

My request for courtesy vanishing has been denied. However, I will remain retired at least until the topic ban imposed on KoshVorlon is revoked. == One and done ==

Re the ANI thread please see Wikipedia:First_Law#one_and_done. I suggest just avoiding Joefromranddb for awhile, and if your perceive their behavior to continue to be disruptive, file another RFC/U (like in three months or so). Make it very low on rhetoric and high on diffs. <small>NE Ent</small> 00:59, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
:I have no further interest in dealing with Joefromrandb. He can go down whatever path he chooses, but I don't want to deal with him anymore. The ANI thread was very disheartening and I was particularly hurt by the the suggestion of a boomerang. If all the time and effort that I have expended on this project has led to me being regarded as a nobody, I guess there's nothing I can do about it. I regret that I didn't handle the ANI situation better and I am now returning to my retirement, which is much more enjoyable anyway. == TCN7JM's RfA ==

Hello ASO. I appreciate that had I opposed simply on the grounds of those two examples then that would have been unfair. As my post said, I agreed with the comments raised about the candidates maturity. The examples were to illustrate that that behaviour was still going on. I was tempted to write "Oppose per..." as may other people had, but I didn't. In future, to save myself problems, I'll refrain from explaining myself and just write "as per...". <span style="white-space:nowrap;">— <span style="font-family:Segoe print">Fly by Night</span> <font color="#000000">(<span style="font-family:Segoe print">talk</span>)</font></span> 17:41, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
:I hope you don't feel that I was badgering or harassing you. RfA involves a discussion of the candidate's merits and you are entitled to hold your own opinions. == Suggestions ==

Though it's been suggested to you before, in light of your current interests, I thought it might be worthwhile raising again: if, in future, you feel a desire to walk away, perhaps you can just take your break unannounced or with just a small notice of your reduced availability. As you seem interested in influencing the direction of Wikipedia, please be aware that your commitment to following through on your proposals is undermined by your announced retirements.

Regarding your disappointment regarding changes to the request for adminship process: I don't know if you have experience in working on a project involving a large group of peers; if not, note it is always tricky to obtain a consensus agreement with a group of people, and the more people there are, the harder it is. (Typically, smaller subgroups are formed to work out different aspects of the project, who then present to the group as a whole.) Thus patience is needed to build agreements. perfect policy proposal has interesting advice on trying to guide a proposal to a effective conclusion. However, I think you might gain satisfaction from taking on a task that doesn't rely on anyone else's commitment. For example, if there's some kind of analysis of past RfA votes you'd like to see done, you could go ahead and do it. Or if you have a set of quantifiable criteria in mind to identify potential admin candidates, maybe you could build up a list of candidates, and then take a closer look at their contributions to see if you'd like to approach them. I'm sure there are a lot of small and medium things that can be done to improve matters, and perhaps prepare the ground for larger changes. isaacl (talk) 01:33, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
:Thanks for your note. Regarding my 'retired' status, while I'm probably still too active to formally call myself 'retired', I'm also far less involved here than I have been in the past.
:Concerning changes to RfA, I'm reaching a point where I doubt there is anything I can do that will provide lasting benefits. == WikiProject Report ==

The WikiProject Report would like to focus on WikiProject NFL for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Multiple editors will have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions, so be sure to sign your answers. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. == Howdy stalkers ==

I'd like to invite all of my talk page stalkers to participate in a new effort located at RfA Candidates. The seemingly endless discussion about RfA has had little lasting effect, so perhaps we should shift our efforts from proposing policy changes to simply finding candidates and asking them to run. Let's stop talking and start doing! == The great EricEnfermero Rollback ==

So rollbacks can happen accidentally? Interesting. How would that work? I've considered applying for rollback privileges myself, so I know they're taken seriously. WQUlrich (talk) 20:49, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
:tpsPretty easily, actually; the rollback right adds links to one's watchlist and user contribution lists to roll back the most recent edit to the page. There's no confirmation dialog or anything, so if you accidentally click on the rollback link in your watchlist, it will immediately roll back the edit. It's especially easy to do on small touchscreens, like those of phones. Because of this, there are a few CSS hacks and Javascript widgets that will hide the rollback links on watchlists, hide it only on mobile devices, require a confirmation between clicking and actual rollback, and the like. Just letting you know I made it my intention to serve for only one year if I get elected, taking over Coren's seat if I get selected to a two year term. I know my history is poor and such thus I understand about the "strong possibility" of resigning during my term, but I'm not that type of person who would resign from such an important position like that unless either A. My health significantly decline or B. Someone comes to my door looking for me because of my Wikipedia activities. While I'm probably the most liberal person when it comes to the adminship kit, believing that if you currently no use for them, simply request them for removal until you need to use them again (thus the million resignations), I'm the complete opposite everywhere else, and that would include ArbCom/checkuser/oversight/whatever. I'm not asking to change your vote, but I want to clarify the situation. Thanks Secret account 21:27, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
