Students are asked to write an entry as part of our Wikipedia Campaign Entry. They are to work in teams of two.

We will be working in collaboration with Wikipedia and are participating in their course. *They will pick the same topic as you are using for your Assignment 1 A Critical Canadian Architect Article.

Writing Style and Genre

Here students' writing should be journalistic in the sense that it is “impartial” or “neutral”. There is a difference between writing in this style or genre, as opposed to a more “marketing, self-promoting/firm promoting style. This, arguably, has a bias. For students' Wikipedia article, all of their citations and supporting articles must meet the “notability” factor. This means that there should be at least three “reputable” articles written on their topic which they cite. Students should not have any firm websites as their references or marketing material from firms. Please use the database searches from students' orientation with Dan Scott, LU Associate Librarian. In all cases for their Wikipedia Assignment, students' Writing sources should be written by third parties such as from reputable journals, magazines or books. Students also need to search existing Wikipedia articles to make sure that their precise topic has not yet been written about or has an entry on Wikipedia. It is, in fact, strategic to insert students' Wikipedia entry onto an existing Wikipedia page or “stub” page as it has a greater likelihood in not being removed by editors. Again, students should test and ensure that their Wikipedia entry is “filling a gap” in existing Wikipedia entries.

Students will be using the supporting research material from their Assignment 1 "A Critical Canadian Architect" Article. These will include citations and articles by third parties.
