Season 1907–08 was the 31st Scottish football season in which Dumbarton competed at national level, entering the Scottish Football League for the ninth time, the Scottish Qualifying Cup for the sixth time and the inaugural Scottish Consolation Cup.

Overview

Dumbarton finished as runners-up in the Second Division with 27 points, 3 behind champions Raith Rovers, including 2 points having been deducted for an apparent 'registration irregularity'.[1] In the subsequent promotion/relegation 'election' process, the First Division clubs maintained their' top flight' status.

Once again qualification for the Scottish Cup was unsuccessful, with Dumbarton losing to Vale of Leven in the first round of the Scottish Qualifying Cup.

For those clubs losing in the early stages of Scottish Cup qualification, a new Consolation Cup was established by the S.F.A. and Dumbarton reached the final of this competition before losing out to Alloa Athletic.

Locally, the Dumbartonshire Cup continued to be played on a league basis. Renton and Dumbarton qualified for the final, where Renton came out on top.

During the season, 2 'friendly' matches were played, including a match against First Division Queen's Park. Both of these matches were won, scoring 6 goals and conceding 2.
