The 2016 Interstate 10 tour bus crash was a vehicle accident that occurred on Interstate 10 (I-10) in California on October 23, 2016, when a tour bus collided with the back of a semi-trailer truck. The accident killed 13 and injured 31 others.
The incident
The tour bus was heading westbound from a casino, and the truck was eastbound when the bus impacted the trailer portion of the truck at about 5:17 a.m. It is unknown whether drugs, alcohol or fatigue were factors in the accident, but the speed of the bus was so significant that when the bus hit the back of the big rig, the trailer entered approximately 15 feet (4.6 m) into the bus. Currently the cause is under investigation, and the truck driver is being interviewed. The bus driver was among those killed.[1]
Victims
There were 43 people on the bus, all adults; 13 were killed including the bus's driver and 30 on the bus along with the truck driver were injured. Everyone involved in the crash was injured.[2][3] None of the victims' identities have been released to the public.
Investigation
Immediately following the accident, the National Transportation Safety Board sent a disaster crew to investigate the crash. In October 2017, the truck driver was charged with 13 counts of felony vehicular manslaughter along with other related charges.[4]
