The 2021 Montenegrin episcopal ordination protests are a series of protests against the ordination of Bishop Joanikije as the new metropolitan of Montenegro of the Serbian Orthodox Church scheduled to take place at the historic monastery of Cetinje.[1]

The protests follow the unresolved issues of the previous clerical protests and ongoing nationalist protests.

The protests have flared up ethnic tensions between the Montenegrins and Serbians,[2] and exacerbated fears over Serbian influence in the state.[3]

The ensuing protests were met with the police firing tear gas at the protesters.[4][5] Dozens of injuries have been reported.[6]
