Daughter of the Bride is a 2023 American comedy film directed by Annette Haywood-Carter and written by Karen Bloch Morse. It stars Marcia Gay Harden, Halston Sage, Andrew Richardson, Cara Santana, Michael Hsu Rosen and Aidan Quinn.
Plot
Kate is a waitress for a caterer. Her mother Diane lives alone in a large house and does some writing, and Kate thinks she needs a man. When she sees an attractive older man named Bruce helping a couple with car trouble at one of her events, she gives the man her mother's number. A few weeks later Diane is talking about a mystery man she is dating. One day while spending time with her mother, Kate is surprised to learn that Bruce is in fact dating her mother. Furthermore, Bruce proposes after Kate leaves, but Kate had to come back for something she forgot and she witnesses this. Kate is not happy. In her upset state, she nearly runs over Josh, a neighbor of hers who is crossing the street.
Kate adjusts to the idea of her mother getting married. They go dress shopping and Kate keeps the dress at her place. Kate can't resist trying on the dress, and when she can't get it off, her mother shows up so she sneaks out and asks Josh for help getting the dress off. Over time, Kate and Josh develop a relationship.
When Diane sells the house and moves in with Kate, mother and daughter have trouble getting along and both romantic relationships are put in jeopardy. Bruce and Diane make up first and the wedding is back on. Josh shows up after the happy couple leave, and the wedding guests witness a romantic moment between Kate and Josh.
