Troublesome Creek (North Fork Kentucky River tributary)
Appearance
Troublesome Creek is a creek in Breathitt, Perry and Knott counties, Kentucky.[1] Its left and right forks join at Hindman, the Knott County seat. The creek joins the North Fork of the Kentucky River near the unincorporated community of Haddix in Breathitt County.[2]
In the book On Troublesome Creek, author James Still describes the local culture of family, self-sufficiency, and hard work.[3] The "Blue Fugates", a family so-called because some of them had blue skin from inheriting methemoglobinemia, lived in the area in the 19th and 20th centuries.[4][5]
