Jide Macaulay is a 53 years -old (born 4 November 1966) is an openly gay Bristish - Nigerian man.[1] British-Nigerian LGBTQ rights activist and ordained priest by the Anglican Church of England.[2][3] He is the founding Pastor and CEO of House Of Rainbow CIC, which makes society safer and more inclusive for all. I came out as gay in 1994 when I was 29 years old after being married to a beautiful, amazing woman for three years. When I came out, it was very challenging. I struggled a lot, even when I tried to keep everything quiet and silent. I was part of a church community where I was also in leadership. When I told my ex-wife, it immediately impacted my leadership and all my roles in the church. I was excommunicated. As a priest, the church allows Jide Macauly to be gay. But an outright marriage to his partner is not permitted. He can live with him in a celebrate relationship but cannot get married in the church. He risks losing his job in the church if he does. [4] Nigeria's first house of worship catering for the LGBTQ community in Nigeria,[5] and was honoured as 2007 Man of the Year by the UK Black LGBT for his role in helping LGBT people of faith.[6][7]
