Lucien Schaeffer (6 June 1928 – 28 December 2016)[5][6] was a French football goalkeeper who was a member of the French squad at the 1948 Summer Olympics,[7][8] but he did not play in any matches.[9] Schaeffer died on 28 December 2016 at the age of 88.[10]

Club career

He started football at FC Eschau[11] and FAIG.[12] In 1945, he was recruited by RC Strasbourg, starting as an amateur player until 1948[13] With them he won the 1951 Coupe de France (which was the first ever honor of the club)[14] while he was the starting goalkeeper. In 1953 he went to Valenciennes FC where he stayed 10 years.[15] He then ended his career at amateur side US Chauny, from 1963 to 1965.[16]

Managerial Career

He had a brief stint as a manager from 1963 to 1965 at US Chauny while he was still a player there.[17]

International career

He was selected in France Football squad for the 1948 Summer Olympics,[18][19] but was an unused substitute for the two Games against India[20] and Great Britain,[21] as France were eliminated in the Quarterfinals. He never had a cap with France.
